Those Radical, Liberal and Progressive American Nuns have Inspired the Pope's Visit to D.C.

America’s liberal and progressive Nuns came under withering attack from the Catholic Church male hierarchy for their liberal and progressive activism. The leadership of America’s Nuns was called to the Vatican in Rome and threatened with sanctions to no avail.

The Vatican with its all male hierarchy relented because of backlash from supporters (inside and outside the Catholic Church) of America’s Nuns. Not only did the Vatican relent, but the Pope himself has now embraced the political, social and civic activism of America’s liberal and progressive Nuns.

Excerpt from Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/...

"The investigation embittered many American Catholics "against what they perceive as heavy-handed tactics by Rome against U.S. sisters who provide critical health care, education and other services for the poor."

"While Pope Francis reaffirmed the canonical investigation and the organization's members were ordered to review their statutes and reassess their plans and programs, the Vatican in its conclusion was effusive in its praise of the nuns' work."

"When the conclusion was announced in April 2015, Christopher Bellitto, a church historian at Kean University, noted, "Anything coming out of the Vatican this morning is nothing other than a fig leaf because they can't say 'oops' in Latin."

John Boehner invited the Pope, but make no mistake, the topic of his speech has been influenced by America's Nuns--as we await the Pope's unprecedented address to a joint session of the U.S. Congress on September 24, 2015.

Pope Francis and the male Catholic hierarchy accused America’s Nuns of engaging in “Radical Feminism”—now this same Pope will address a joint session of the U.S. Congress in support of many of the same social issues America’s liberal and progressive Nuns were accused of being to radical about.

Catholic Nuns in the United States are aged with grace and beauty, mature, young, and more assertive, outspoken, liberal, and progressive than at any time in the history of the Catholic Church.

America’s Nuns overwhelmingly supported the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) because: it helps pregnant women get help with prenatal care, screenings, medications, ultrasounds, counseling services and other healthcare services that will reduce the likelihood of birth defects and miscarriages.

America’s Nuns also believe the service provided by the PPACA helps women to not select abortion as an option, and prevents abortions from having to be performed because health issues arise because the mother could not get medical help etc. America’s Nuns lobbied on Capital Hill for the (PPACA) and they are openly supportive of President Obama.

From the 1970’s up to today; they have had an ongoing problem with the US Conference of Bishops being appointed without any consultation with the leadership of American Nuns. America’s nuns continue to lobby and advocate for nuns to be included in the all male Catholic hierarchy.

America’s Nuns know the chronic pedophilia issues, that are covered up within the Catholic Church—which are causing many worshipers to be concerned. US Nuns today are more assertive, influential, and persuasive than at any time in the history of the Catholic Church.

US Nuns are the ones who are doing the hands on, day to day work: in community centers, hospitals, outreach centers, shelters, and schools. They are the ones who are involved with the day to day work with the poor and middle class living on the margins of society. They want a greater say so in who is chosen to lead the Catholic Church in America.

Nuns would make great Priests, Bishops and Cardinals etc.!

Here are four excellent choices for Pope:

Sister Simone Campbell is Executive Director of NETWORK. She is a religious leader, attorney and poet. She is an advocate for public policy and systemic change. http://www.networklobby.org/

In Washington, she lobbies on issues of peace-building, immigration reform, healthcare and economic justice.

During the 2010 congressional debate about healthcare reform, Sister Campbell wrote the famous “nuns’ letter” supporting the reform bill and got 59 leaders of Catholic Sisters, including the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), to sign on.

This action was critically important in passing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. She was thanked by President Obama and attended the ceremony celebrating its being signed into law.

Sister Carol Keehan is the ninth president and CEO of the Catholic Health Association of the United States. https://www.chausa.org/

Sister Sharon Holland and Sister Marlene Weisenbeck are the current and former presidents respectively of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) which represents 80% of American Nuns. https://lcwr.org/

Anyone of these four Sisters would make a great Pope.
