“When you talk about the economy we also have to have an honest assessment of unemployment in America, Once a month the government publishes a set of figures, and the last figures they published said that official unemployment was 5.4 percent,”The United States Department of Labor: Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for years has always reported six different unemployment rates. Six BLS Unemployment Rates--Bernie's assessment of the state of the unemployment rate may be honest to him, but it conveniently leaves out where the U-6 unemployment rate was at the height of the recession in October of 2009, and how much the U-6 and U-3 unemployment rates have improved since October of 2009. Bernie gives no acknowledgement or credit to the Democratic Party and President Obama for economic legislation and initiatives that have greatly improved the U-6 and U-3 unemployment rates and economy. Bernie Sanders is great on the social issues, would but a preferred choice over any republican candidate for president, but is downer, doom and gloom when it comes to the economy.
But there is another set of government statistics, and that says, that real unemployment if you include those people who have given up looking for work and the millions of others who are working part-time 20, 25 hours a week when they want to work full-time, if you add all of that together, real unemployment is 10.5 percent.”

In October of 2015With 14 full months to go in his presidency, by the time President Obama leaves office in January of 2017 there is a good chance the U-3 (official) unemployment rate will be around 4.5 and the U-6 at around 8.5 or 9.0--Not bad considering the almost one million jobs per month that were being lost in the early months of 2009, that was accompanied by fast rising unemployment rates--all thanks to the economic policies of the Republican Party led by George W. Bush. The white unemployment rate 20 and over: overall, for men, women and teens 16-19 stands at 4.4, 4.1, 3.9 and 13.9 respectively. The African-American unemployment rate 20 and over: overall, men, women and teens 16-19 stands at: 9.2, 8.9, 8.0 and 31.5 respectively. The Hispanic/Latino unemployment rate 20 and over: overall, men, women and teens 16-19 stands at: 6.4, 5.5, 6.3 and 24.0 respectively. Before any votes are cast, presidential candidates compete for the support of influential members of their party, especially elected officials like U.S. representatives, senators and governors. During the period known as the “invisible primary,” these “party elites” seek to coalesce around the candidates they find most acceptable as their party’s nominee. Republicans who govern in these states care more about rejecting, obstructing and refusing to implement any legislative or economic plan put forth by democrats or President Obama, than they do about the economic well-being of the poor and middle class families living in their states, many who are struggling on the margins of society.
